Madison County Courts

The Madison justice system has one Circuit Court, one Chancery Court, one County Court, one Justice Court, one Youth Court, and four Municipal Courts. The Madison County Circuit Court has original jurisdiction to hear all civil and criminal cases not vested exclusively in another court in the county. The Madison County Chancery Court hears probate and family law matters.

The Madison County court has exclusive jurisdiction over matters involving eminent domain, unlawful entry and detainer, youth courts and partition of personal property. The County Court has concurrent jurisdiction with the Justice Court over civil and criminal cases. The County Court also has concurrent jurisdiction with the Circuit and Chancery Courts over matters of law and equity up to $200,000. The County Court can hear non-capital felony criminal cases transferred by the Circuit Court.

The Madison County Justice Court hears cases ranging from all traffic citations issued in Madison County by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the Public Service Commission, the Pearl River Authority, and the Madison County Constables. The court also adjudicates on Wildlife Citations and Affidavits within the county.
